One Year Anniversary

Can you believe it?  One year ago today I started blogging. Just like last year, spring is in the air and the hope of a great spring has been assured by the cold winter. I’ve spotted a couple red breasted robins, so I know the warm air is not far away.

Just like last year, I’ve planted peas. This time, I’ve put in sugar snaps. Last year’s peas really didn’t develop for we didn’t get a spring! It was just nasty all the way until June. I’m hoping they’ll be big enough to put out in a couple weeks. When they do go out, I’m going to start twice as many a second time. I don’t think anyone can plant enough sugar snap peas!

Unlike last year, I’ve also started spinach. I’ve got the seeds of one package distributed across two standard starter flats and I’m going to watch them closely. Last year I couldn’t get a single spinach seed to sprout. This year, I’m not settling for that. After these get a couple week head start, I’m going to start the Spinach and Swiss chard that I gathered from last year.

I got to visit my parents the other day and it turns out my dad has enough lettuce and beet starts to plant an acre! He’s starting indoors and his growing season is a couple weeks ahead of mine. Last year, I got about 200 lettuce starts and enjoyed them all the way through august. If I’m lucky, I’ll find that he has some left over and I’ll make a home for them.

One change that I’m going to make to the garden this year is to plant potatoes near the compost pile rather than taking up valuable growing space in the raised beds. I spent a little time this winter clearing out the brush so all I have to do is spread some compost and press in some Pontiac reds.

Not only have I enjoyed the garden and helped it grow, this blog has grown! There are currently over 125 posts and some even have comments. The site is averaging about 10 spam comments a day and it’s growing. I am glad there is filter software that swallows the bulk of it. Unique visits, over the last month average around 300.

Over the last year, the most popular posting has been the posting ORMUS, is this the wet method that I posted on April 18th of last year. I really enjoyed critiquing HealingMindN’s video and it seems that others are drawn to it too. But what I’m really surprised by is that the posting Opening the Window to Your Soul is the second most popular! There is magic there. It appears others are drawn to it to also.

The energy that I had when I started this blog seems to be holding up fairly strong. I guess I really like having an outlet – to the world – for sharing. I find that I still want to take pictures of different things that I’m experiencing so that I can craft a blog and tell the world. I still find myself meditating on topics and scribbling down the words. And, most importantly, I’m still having fun!

I’ve always been a little camera shy, but I’m starting to think about expanding to YouTube. But it’s still just a thought. I don’t have anything to sell so it would simply be me sharing my ideas. If I can figure out what to chat about, I’ll make the move. But for now, it’s still just a thought.

So as it stands, I’d stay this blog is 1 year old and that it’s had a pretty good start to life.

Have a great day and I hope to see you back here another day!
